BLOG TOUR: Gabriel's Redemption – Sylvain Reynard + Review & giveaway!

Released: December 3rd, 2013

From the author of the New York Times bestsellers Gabriel’s Rapture and Gabriel’s Inferno comes the epic conclusion to the captivating romantic trilogy.

Professor Gabriel Emerson has left his position at the University of Toronto to embark on a new life with his beloved Julianne. Together, he’s confident that they can face any challenge. And he’s eager to become a father.

But Julianne’s graduate program threatens Gabriel’s plans, as the pressures of being a student become all consuming. When she is given the honor of presenting an academic lecture at Oxford, Gabriel is forced to confront Julianne about the subject of her presentation—research that conflicts with his own. And in Oxford, several individuals from their past appear, including an old nemesis intent on humiliating Julia and exposing one of Gabriel’s darkest secrets.

In an effort to confront his remaining demons, Gabriel begins a quest to discover more about his biological parents, beginning a chain of events that has startling repercussions for himself, Julianne, and his hope of having a family.

"We can't change our pasts. All we can change is the future."

Beautiful conclusion to a beautiful trilogy. Gabriel's Redemption follows Gabriel in his journey as he digs deep into his family's connections and history, revealing more than one surprising things along the way, while Julia tries to balance her academic position in Harvard and her marriage with Gabriel, as well as his request to build a family. These two have created such a wonderful love story to tell and this book was a sweet ending to the series.

Although I have to admit that this book is much more anti-climatic compared to the previous two, it was equally as wonderfully written. I love it when an author knows their stuff. Sylvain Reynard explains Julia's theories about Dante so thoroughly that, even if I don't know what the hell half of that stuff means, it creates an image that the author does.

There's always a sense of calmness whenever I read the Gabriel's Inferno series. I don't know whether it's due to the calming storyline with slight bumps or it's the author's writing style that sounds very literature-ish instead of a Contemporary Romance. Nevertheless, it's unique and I love that style.

As sad as I am to say goodbye to the Professor (definitely not permanently), I fell in love with Gabriel's character over and over again. Not only because he was finally facing his demons, but he becomes even more thoughtful and attentive of Julia. He becomes the supportive husband that she needs, even though he could be slow at times.

“Is there a special occasion I’ve forgotten about?”
“No, I just enjoy giving you things.”
And not to mention the hot steamy sex they have since both of them are insatiable.

“What would cheering you up entail?”
“Taking my mind off my troubles by tantalizing me with your naked body.”

Their museum sex especially, mm-mm. *wiggles eyebrows*

Oh and the things Gabriel says. Definitely swoon-worthy.
"For you, my love, I would endeavor to pluck the stars from the sky, only to shower them at your feet."
"Of all the gifts God gave me, the greatest one is you."
But, I think that the part I loved most in the book was Julia's character development. I was so angry with Julia in the beginning because she was an undeniably passive character who becomes the typical damsel in distress. It even annoyed me further when Gabriel tried to defend her in his own way and she ended up angry, but she can't even support herself. She can't defend herself against Christa Peterson. In all honesty, if Christa did that to me, I'd probably already drag her out by the hair.
She'd said that she was sorry, even though she'd done almost nothing.
Precisely. Those last four words were they key ones. She'd done almost nothing. She doesn't do anything in the beginning and Gabriel ends up swallowing all this guilt inside of him because Julia doesn't want him protecting her.

That's why I adored how the author developed her character from this extremely passive protagonist to a strong, intelligent heroine in the end.
"Now my blessedness appears."
Truly beautiful!

Minor Faults:
  • Too dull at times, no specific plot to focus on.

I'm interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition - particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I'm also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

BLOG TOUR: Beautiful Broken Mess – Kimberly Lauren + Review & giveaway!

Released: November 9th, 2013

Jace Riley’s close connection with his identical twin brother, Jaxon, is put to the test when he tries to choose between keeping his promises and following his heart. Is this girl that still haunts his dreams, even after four years, really worth it? Jace can’t help but wonder if he made a huge mistake all that time ago when he let her walk into someone else’s arms, especially since that someone was his twin.

Audrey Mills often wonders at what point she should throw her hands up in defeat and allow all of the horrible circumstances of her life to overtake her. Despite the demons she has faced, however, something inside her won’t give in. When she leaves her small town in Texas to attend college in California, Audrey runs into the one guy who could make her or break her. But is the past they share too painful for them to overcome?

This is the second book in the broken series. While each book can stand on its own, it's recommended you read Beautiful Broken Rules before Beautiful Broken Mess.

New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 18 and up.

"It's like nothing has changed in the past four years. You still feel like a breath of fresh air compared to every girl I've met before."

The second book was tremendously entertaining, although not as much as the first one. It's a lovely, little story about second chances and earning trust, about making it through the toughest of times. Audrey's past will break your heart and Jace's chase for her will have your heart beating like crazy.

Jace, oh Jace.

If you loved Jace in the first book (which I definitely did), you are going to scream over how adorably sweet he is in this one.

Jace has always been one of my favorite characters, with that southern charm his brother has too and that intelligence about him. He's thoughtful and so fucking considerate. He can fuck up at times but then again, who doesn't?

When he first meets Audrey, he's so adorable.

Audrey: “Just turned eighteen last week.”
Jace: “No shit? So did I. What day?”
Audrey: “The fourteenth.”
Jace: “The thirteenth, beat you by a day!”
He is just the cutest little fucker. And the sweet things he says:
"I like you, Audrey. I plan to take you out and kiss you goodnight over and over until you agree to let me do it all again the next night."
Sign me up!

Although I must admit I hated Audrey's character in the first book, but that was because I didn't know her character at all. That's why I was so surprised to see that she was Jace's love interest in this book. I liked how Ms. Lauren clarified what happened between Jax and Audrey and Jace. It gives us a view of Audrey's side of the story.

My heart broke for Audrey over and over again in the beginning and also towards the end. Her family life, being one of the hardest I've ever come across, was just so heart-wrenching. Then how she waited for Jace for years and after they got together, for so long. She was so patient with him and that was the loveliest thing I've ever seen a girl do. She wasn't a tough one, no. But she was still independent and she went with her gut. She wasn't your stereotypical damsel in distress.

In conclusion, wonderful story with wonderful characters. Another beautiful piece from Kimberly Lauren!

Minor Faults:
  • Everything was predictable from the beginning (except for some parts)
  • It seems as if Jace had some to all these conclusions from the beginning that it left no room for his character development.

I'm a wanderer, an adventurer, a traveler.

I want to see it all. I haven't been everywhere but it's on my list.

"She travels the world & home is always in her heart."

Lately if I'm not traveling or chasing a toddler, I'm writing. Which is weird because I hated writing in college. Oh wait, that's because that was boring. Who really wants to sit there and cite all your sources into APA format? Not this girl. Writing for yourself is enjoyable and cathartic. Please try it. Then tell me about because I love indie authors.

When I was 19, I packed up and followed my high school sweetheart from Texas to California. We had a blast living it up in San Diego. Four years later we made a crazy decision and packed up again and moved to Germany. What? Yep, you read that right. Guess what? Best decision ever! We OWNED Europe. For three years we saw as much as we possibly could. We lived an hour outside of France, a couple from Switzerland and Italy. Most amazing time of my life. Please go out there and see the world, you won't regret it. After Europe we moved back to California, and for now we're just debating our next adventure.

I earned a degree in Child Development. And now I write novels. Makes perfect sense! I write because I walk around all day with these stories in my head. It's nice to be able to get them out of my head in an organized fashion. I hope that someone out there enjoys them, because I have enjoyed so many others'.ur-legged babies or reading. I’m a firm believer in long hand written letters, love of any kind and good stories.
