[Review] The Last Boyfriend - J.S. Cooper

Lucky Morgan has had her share of heartbreak. She is devastated that her boyfriend dumps her after sleeping with him and she vows to herself that she won't be used again. She decides that the next guy she dates and sleeps with, will be her one true love.

Zane Beaumont is the mysterious and snooty guy that comes into her diner every Friday night with a different girl. He's the type of guy she's learned to avoid: carefree, fast, handsome, rich, and sarcastic. Unfortunately, she can't stop thinking about the devilish gleam in his eyes.

When Lucky's car breaks down one night after a party, it is Zane who comes to her rescue. As Zane attempts to sweep Lucky off her feet, she soon realizes that nothing is as it seems and that Zane may very well be the guy whom she changes the rules. That is until she meets Braydon.

"Sometimes you just have to grab life by the horns and ride it wherever it takes you."

I was really disappointed by this book. I mean, you read a blurb like that and you just end up expecting so much from it. I like how some stories have those mysterious vibes that just makes it even more thrilling, but this one was just such a bust.

Really though, I liked Lucky's character. She's smart and pretty responsible. She's a hard-worker. But she is so damn naïve. She falls for Zane and Braydon's charms so easily. Sometimes I get so frustrated with how innocent she is. Zane keeps giving her mixed signals. If I was her, I'd just be:

On the other hand, Zane and Braydon are such asses that they make it so fucking obvious. Let's start with Braydon, shall we? He keeps telling her to stay away from Zane. If a guy did that to me, I'd tell him to fuck off and to stop bossing me around. He is so damn annoying. I really liked him at first since he was pretty sweet. I thought that he genuinely liked Lucky. 

And then he opened his fucking big mouth.

He keeps telling her to stay away. That Zane's bad news. Why doesn't he just focus on Lucky?! She's right there! She's with you so why the hell are you worried about him? 

"Please don't tell me that Zane Beaumont is in any way involved with this documentary […] He is isn't he? That asshole."

"He did this because of me you know. He must have heard me telling Evan how nice I thought you were and how I was interested in you."

He is so full of himself! So freaking selfish, obnoxious, conceited, obsessive.

And then there's Zane, what an assbutt. He tells Lucky that he can't be with her but then invites her to stay with him? Like. what. the. hell. 

But I guess it was because of his family. He's been hurt too many times that he thinks that relationships are just not for him.

"It doesn't have to be on purpose, it will still break your heart. Love will tear you apart from limb to limb." - Zane

I kind of liked how they explained what happened to Noah and it wasn't too cliché. 

But overall, the story was really overused. It was the typical plot. So predictable. The characters weren't that good. 

OH! And I like how the author mentioned Jamie McGuire ;)

"I also love books like Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire."

But the book overall wasn't that good. It was kind of a disappointment for me since I was expecting a lot from the characters.

• The characters. Just the characters.
• The plot was too cliché.

[Review] Motorcycle Man - Kristen Ashley

Kane "Tack" Allen has a rule. He doesn't employ someone he's slept with. And he lets Tyra know that in his motorcycle man way. Tyra fights for her job and wins it using sass and a technicality. Tack challenges her that if she hits his bed one more time, she loses her job.

Tyra is determined to keep her job and keep away from tack. But she makes a big mistake. During their head-to-heads, she lets it all hang out and shows Tack she is who he's looking for. And Tack has had a good woman slip through his fingers, he's not about to let that happen again.

Although Tack colors Tyra's world with a vibrancy that's blinding, being with him means she has to live in his Motorcycle Club world. Full on, no holds barred. And since Tack's world, not to mention Tack, is a little scary, Tyra isn't so sure.

It's Tack's job to convince her.

"Life's a roller coaster. Best damn ride in the park. You don't close your eyes, hold on and wait for it to be over, babe. You keep your eyes open, lift your hands straight up in the air and enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts."

I really didn't think that this book would be THAT good. But Kristen Ashley had proven me wrong with her excellent writing style, fantabulous characters and intense, exciting, suspenseful storyline (not to mention the amazingly hot sex!).

The book was honestly so freaking hilarious. Their romance was extreme, since, for Tyra, it was practically a love at first sight kind of thing. Tyra when she first got up in the morning:

"I had done it. I finally had done it. I found him. […] He was the one. This motorcycle man in bed with me was the man of my dreams."

And then he goes and ruins her dreams:

Tack: "Time to get to your own bed, darlin'. […] Leave your number and close the door on your way out, would you, Red?"

And to find out that he's her new boss the next day? Yikes, not a good sign. But their story is so adorable, complex and fucking hilarious at the same time. Their relationship goes pretty well since Tack is well sharp as a tack (which was how he got the nickname, I don't think this counts as a spoiler). He's so damn perceptive that whenever Tyra's upset or angry, he'd know straightaway and would force her to talk it out. He definitely makes it to my top list of book boyfriends.

And then Tyra. God, I loved her character so much. It's like she's falling in love for the first time ever.

Tyra: "My shampoo bottle is bright orange."

Tack: "Right. And you're tellin' me this because…?" 

Tyra: "Because I've been using this brand of shampoo for years and I never really noticed what color the bottle was. Not once. Until you."

Tyra is terrified of change. She likes things where they are, arranged in organized boxes. So when Tack comes along unexpectedly, she's thrown out of her safe zone. Tack forces her to try risks and different things.

Tack can be a bit of an asshole at times since he just doesn't know how to treat a lady. But then he has his moments where he says these sweet things, in his own way of course.

"I did that but that didn't erase what we did. You are my absolution." - Tack

Their relationship is hilarious because they're not only dating, but they're each other's best friends. Each other's safe haven.

Tack: "Babe, you're still bein' cute."

Tyra: "Oh. Right. I'll stop doing that right away."

Tack: "Christ, still fuckin' cute."

HOW ARE THEY NOT ADORABLE?!

And then there are times when Tack is being a typical man

Tack: "This is me seein' to that soft spot when I say quiet-like that I… will… be… there… in ten. And what i mean is, when I get there in ten, your ass better be there."

Tyra: "I'm in a tight, short, little aquamarine dress with high heels. I can't get on a bike."

Tack: "You're in a tight, short dress and high heels?"

Tyra: "Yes."

Tack: "I'll be there in five."

Even though their relationship is just like one giant clusterfuck, they somehow always make it through. Tack with his sharp eye makes sure that whenever they had problems, they'd talk them out and solve them together. I'm so damn envious of their relationship because, despite all their differences and all the drama that was bound to happen (THE LAST PARTS WERE INTENSE BTW), they finally got their happily ever after.

Minor Faults:

• Tack was too overbearing most of the time so I hated how he treated Tyra at times

[Review] Dirty Red - Tarryn Fisher

EEEEEP~ I really didn't want to read this book in the beginning since I was pretty bummed about The Opportunist. The ending was just freaking depressing since it didn't have the happily ever after I was expecting, but both sides were trying to be rational. But this cover wasn't that pretty compared to the Opportunist which showed Olivia's sexy and dangerous side. Leah looks more vulnerable, which she is not, in this cover. And now we see the world through the antagonist's side.

Leah is a psychopathic, obsessive bitch who thinks she's in love with Caleb because he is the image of perfection that her parents expect from her. She wanted the attention, the feeling that her parents would finally think of her as something instead of nothing. And she achieved this through Caleb. But she is utterly obsessed with her ideas and plotting.

"I have done a number of things to keep this man. I have lied and cheated. I have been sexy and meek, fierce and vulnerable. I have been everything but myself."

She is a woman who knows how to manipulate. With her fabulous red hair and snarky attitude, she is one dangerous package. She is frustrating and sexy at the same time.

I still really like how Tarryn Fisher changes the present/past between chapters. We get a glimpse of how she's facing her current predicaments and what her history with Caleb was: how they met, how they ended up together, how she felt. Everything!

And the characters I actually really liked. In a way? They were pretty frustrating at times, aside from Sam, who I absolutely adore. He deals with Leah so casually that she gets upset, frustrated, angry, furious, etc etc. And Sam doesn't beat around the bush, he just goes straight to the point.

Exhibit A:

Leah: "How do I get him to come home?"

Sam: "Get a new personality and learn to shut the fuck up."

Oh Sam. And then Exhibit B:

Sam: "Caleb is a pretty nice guy. […] Why would he marry a girl like you?" 

Lastly, Exhibit C:

Sam: "It's hard to remember that a cold shrew like you is actually a mother."

I bloody freaking love Sam. He's hilarious and he's honest. He doesn't bullshit around Leah even though he works for her.

But I love love love how Caleb and Olivia are like soulmates. It's like the for real, the-one kind of thing.

"When they're together, it's like putting a hurricane and a tornado in the same room - you can feel the tension. I didn't believe in the cliché of soul mates until I saw them together." - Cammie 

It's as if everyone around them knows that, no matter how many times they try to keep those two apart, they know that their hearts will always belong to each other.

I didn't choose her. Love is illogical. You fall into it like a manhole. Then you're just stuck. You die in love more than you live in love." - Caleb

And freak faeraweralkejralwekjr the one scene with Olivia (which I was pretty pissed since she only showed up once in the whole book).

Leah: "I thought you loved your husband."

Olivia: "I love yours too." 

Minor Faults:

• I didn't like how crazy Leah was, it was a bit too exaggerated but maybe it was her character.

Okay, I was intrigued by the first book thanks to the gorgeous cover. It was so simple and beautiful. I actually really liked the first novel and I'm super excited for the second one since the first ended with a cliffhanger. So yes, PUMPED but I'm also afraid that this book will disappoint me since sequels usually do.

[Review] The Mistress - Tiffany Reisz

And I can assure you that the series is most definitely not a disappointing read. So, if you haven't read it, SHOO! VAMOOSE! (is that how you spell it?) and go read it first! For those, who have, you may enter ;)

FUCK FUCKETY FUCK HOLY SHIT. Pardon my French, Kingsley would've been proud. This book was so freaking intense.

I AM SO NOT OKAAAY. But it wasn't with the ending. Fuck, Tiffany Reisz wrote another beautiful book with the same hilarious, captivating, bewitching, enlightening characters and such engrossing, horrifying, passionate plot. This book gave me so much feels especially with Søren. My God, that man scares me half to death and fascinates the fuck out of me. He's just so different and intriguing. 

So, if you've read the first three books then you know what's going on, so I'm going to go and spoil it, since it was mentioned in The Prince. Marie-Lurie, Søren's psychopath bridezilla, had captured Nora. The third book's ending was a cliffhanger so I'm just so damn happy that this one had a real ending.

Okay, honestly, I thought this one was going to be pretty boring and, fffuuuu, Tiffany has done it again. I mean, the blurb sounded so casual. I've been disappointed so many times by books that had such great first novels that ended with a cliffy and then continued in the second book. The second one was fucking horrible. I mean it, it's usually so bad that I want to weep that the author ruined such a good series. But, damn, did Mistress Reisz prove me wrong again.

Marie-Lurie apparently didn't die when Søren and Kingsley were still at St. Ignatius. She faked her death and escaped to live life for a while. Until a coincidental sighting reminded her of all the pain in her past. So she's ready to seek revenge. Her targets? Her husband and brother.

The only way to hurt Søren was to threaten his Little One, and that was Nora. So holy shit. That's exactly what she did. If you know Søren, then you should definitely be afraid of him. Everyone is. Well, with the exception of Nora, who well, doesn't fear anyone basically. Yes, Marie-Lurie had some real guts to hurt Søren.

The book kept alternating between third person point of views. Omniscient of course. With Nora, you get to hear her exciting, super sexy tales of her sexcapades with Søren, Kingsley, Wes and Griffin. With Grace (YES! Zach's wife does show up here), you get to see how she feels about everything: Søren, Nora's abduction, the world her husband was in awhile back. With Kingsley, you get to feel his despair and pain as he faces the possibility of losing the one man he's ever loved. With Wes, you could hear the panic and worry he goes through while thinking about Nora's safety. And finally, with Laila (Søren's darling niece), you see how much she loves her 'onkel' and 'tante', how she's worried for them both, and also how she falls in love.

And of course, Søren's thoughts remained untouched, which I absolutely loved from Tiffany Reisz. She keeps Søren's mysterious vibe going. But, I LOVED LOVED LOOOOVED how she made Søren open up more in this book. In the previous books, we see this man who's so close and alike to God, who everyone worships and fears and loves. He seems so untouchable. But here, we see his human side. The author creates Søren as a character so complex. He seemed so fearless at first but then his most beloved gets taken away from him, and he becomes so vulnerable and hurt. He panics and freaks out. He goes through so many complicated emotions because he lost his Little One.

When Søren and Nora first met, he knew straightaway that he belonged to her and she did him:

"Because there is nothing I wouldn't do to protect you, Eleanor. Nothing I wouldn't do to help you. And nothing I wouldn't do to save you. Nothing."

HOLY SHIT RIGHT. And God, I love Nora and Søren together because they're lovers and they're somehow best friends too. Only Nora knew how to be so fearless when facing Søren.

Grace: "You call her Little One?"

Søren: "I always have. She was a teenager when we met. A very ill-mannered teenager. She demanded to know why I was so tall. She insinuated I had grown this tall simply for attention."

Grace: "Only Nora could be rude and flirtatious at the same time."

Søren: "I explained to her that I was tall so I could hear God's voice better. And since I was taller and could hear Him better, she should always listen to me. That didn't sit very well with her. She retorted the next day with a verse from Psalm 114. 'The Lord keeps the little ones.' Her biblical proof that God prefers short people. I started calling her Little One after that." 

OH, and another of my favorites:

Søren: "She wasn't [terrified of him]. You know her first words she ever said to me . . . I remember them like yesterday. She said, 'You're kind of an idiot, you know that, right?'"

Honestly, I could go on and on about how flawless this book is. The characters were so amazingly developed. We see how they've changed and grown from the previous books, aside from Nora of course. Even when facing death with Marie-Lurie, she's still the funny person she usually is.

Marie-Lurie: "Simply trying to see what he sees in you. My husband, I mean. I'm not finding it yet."

Nora: "I give great head."

JESUS CHRIST NORA. THIS WOMAN COULD KILL YOU AND THAT'S WHAT YOU SAY

Marie-Lurie: "I even gave him until noon on Friday to make up his mind about us. High noon. I've seen too many movies, haven't I?"

Nora: "And not enough therapists."

Marie-Lurie: "You're disgusting."

Nora: "I'm doing the French thing. I'm down to one shower a week."

This book made me laugh like a hyena with Nora, cry like a freaking baby with Søren, and piss my pants worrying with all the tension and suspense in the book.

A DEFINITE MUST MUST READ. The Original Sinners Series is flawless and beautifully written. If you're really into erotica and you can handle extreme BDSM scenes, this is the series for you!

[Review] Seducing Cinderella - Gina L. Maxwell

This book actually surprised me. And, well, even though I do get surprised easily, nevertheless, it was definitely still a shocker for me. I honestly didn't think that this book would be that good. I was expecting a book filled with hot, steamy sex and not much of the romance.

But, boy, did Ms. Maxwell prove me the hell wrong.

Lucie and Reid were just so fucking perfect. Although Lucie can be annoying at times, but I'll elaborate on that more later. But the whole story was so simple and easy to read. It was slightly fast-paced but I thought it was pretty okay since I didn't mind the flow of the story. Overall, the book had a fantastic plot with awesome characters and the love to match.

Well, now, let's start of with Lucie. She was initially this really nerdy-ish character who basically didn't really know how to be feminine. She was so conscious of herself, so insecure and vulnerable. The doctor of her dreams wanted to ask her friend out after one meeting! Obviously, this Dr. Dickwad was a jerk since he didn't realize how special Lucie was. He was really into images and shit so yeah, he's an ass.

But when Reid comes along and teaches her how to be this spicy character, man did she change. She bought a whole new set of wardrobe, changed her attitude and slowly began to turnover her outlook on everything in life. I really liked her character because she was a fast learner and she wasn't passive at all. She was actually willing to make an effort to win Dr. Mann's heart. Lucie didn't sit around.

The only thing that pissed me off about her was her insecurity. I mean, maybe yeah, she was really self-conscious and everything but, fuck, she really can't see how amazing and gorgeous she really is. It was kind of depressing seeing her bring herself down and all. I'm just happy that Reid came along ;)

What's sad about Lucie is that she doesn't believe in love.

"That had been the moment she decided to never again trust that love was all a relationship needed to work. She stripped the phrase 'opposites attract' from her vocabulary and vowed to not get involved to anyone who wasn't suitably compatible with her."

I was like, "Wow." She's been hurt before and it sucks. It sucks that that's the reason why she's actually so interested in the doctor. He was "compatible" with her but she didn't want to be a romantic character again. She wanted to rationalize her world and try to have that perfect life with the perfect husband.

And then there's Reid. MY GOD REID ANDREWS. He is so much more than just a fighter, even Lucie observed this.

"You see things differently than most people. There's a very artistic side to you."

That is too adorable. Reid is one of the sweetest guy characters I've ever come across. He really tried for Lucie, and, although sometimes he was such a shitty coward, he always came back to her. Always. He leads this seemingly perfect life as a successful, wealthy fighter but maybe, on the inside, all he wants is to feel the love that he never had.

He's such a lovely man with the greatest talent to work with words. Whenever he says something, I just go:

• Plot was a bit too predictable
• Lucie complained a teensy bit too much about herself.

[Review] Playing for Keeps - R.L. Mathewson

Done with being the world's biggest pushover, Haley decides that things are going to change starting with the aggravating neighbor who has too much charm and not enough restraint. What she didn't expect was to be sucked into his world, but Haley has a game plan and she won't let herself forget just what the bad boy next door is capable of.

That last thing jason expected was for his shy little neighbor to go Rambo on him over some ruined flowers. After he decides to take her under his wing, he can't help but notice that she fits very nicely in his life. Now the only thing left is to convince her that this is anything but a game

"I should walk out of here and never come back and let you go on and meet some nice guy who will give you everything in life you deserve."

This book was so freaking hilarious. I pissed myself and just burst out laughing in public because of their insane antics. Honestly, the book's plot was really good. They became best friends and then fell in love. They were adorable actually, really adorable. I mean, Jason's this hot guy who's hot as hell. And he also comes from hell thanks to his crazy appetite. Then there's Haley, who's equally as hot. She's feisty and is probably the only one who can actually put up with Jason. Guess what? Her family's from hell. Basically, they're probably neighbors in hell.

Haley starts off as a pushover since she was so kind and she just didn't get mad at anyone. She's down-to-earth and she doesn't even realize how attractive she is. When Jason tells her that, she merely laughs him off.

But...this is from Jason's friend's thoughts.

"His buddy might not know it yet, but he met his match in that little lady. If any woman could bring Jason to his knees, it was that woman."

But really, Haley's family is basically from hell. I mean, seriously? What. The. Fuck.

"Funny how family barbecues in her family really meant bringing everyone they wanted to impress or schmooze."

I was like, Jesus Christ, are they mental?!

Haley: "How are your children?" 

Rose (sister): "How would I know?" 

I get it if like one of them's mental but all of them are motherfucking crazy. Her mom does botox and doesn't give a shit about anything except her image, her sisters are stupid bitches who are probably actually jealous that her sister has shape, and her dad? Wtf man.

Her dad: "Happy birthday, sweetheart. I'm sorry it's a couple of weeks late."

IT WAS FIVE FREAKING MONTHS LATE. Maybe the author was trying to make Haley seem like the protagonist and lovable one, but that's just overdoing it. I can't even take it anymore. Let's move on.

Jason, who was a supposed playboy in the past, drops everything to make Haley his next project. She becomes his "little grasshopper". What I loved most about Jason was his freaking appetite. My God, this man could eat three horses and still be hungry.

When someone steals his food?

"You cookie thieving bastard."

"Brownie thieving bastard."

"How dare you touch my cookies, you bastard!"

It's way too adorable watching him eat. Haley knows him so well sometimes that she hides the food from him, otherwise he'd take it all.

"Eating to Jason was sacred, probably because he liked stealing food from her plate when it was still hot."

But their relationship is too cute. They're such close friends.

Jason: "You didn't wake me up."

Haley: "I did wake you up. Three times in fact. Each time you threw something at me and went back to sleep." 

Jason: "And you gave up? You know our routine, woman. You have to keep at it until I'm forced to get off the bed to find something to throw at you."

Oh, Jason. I felt really bad for him though because none of his family members believed that he was good enough to date Haley. So when he told them that she was his girlfriend, they were all like: "Stop lying, Jason."

Jason: "Men from my own family are hitting on my girlfriend?"

His mom: "They've been hitting on your friend."

And another…

Jason: "Shouldn't you be getting all excited and trying to push for marriage and grandbabies at this point?"

Megan: "You know I probably would if you were dating her. She's a very nice woman and I think she would do you a world of good. Are you thinking of asking her out?" 

Jason: "Why the hell would I have to ask my girlfriend out? She's already going out with me. What is wrong with you people?"

Megan: "Oh, honey, you don't have to keep pretending. I'm glad you have af riend like Haley. Everyone thinks she's great."

I was just like,

But, overall, it was a fantastic easy read. It was funny as hell and the romance was pretty steamy, despite some of the few unbelievable moments.

Minor Faults:

• Some of it was so unbelievable, they acted like five year-olds instead of actual adults
• Haley's family? Completely irrational honestly
• Too fast-paced in the beginning
