When all hope for moving on from a life filled with pain was gone, Emily Watson closed herself off to the world, packed her bags, and moved across the country in search of a new life. What she found was a career she adored and friends whom she loved. It wasn't a full and complete life, but it was definitely better than what she knew before.
When all hope for being loved and accepted for who he was instead of what he had was gone, Taylor Carter decided that trusting people outside of his family wasn't really smart and would only lead to disappointment. With his world turned upside down, his life became about his work, and every new relationship was meaningless and superficial. He was safe, and definitely content, but never truly happy.
When all hope for staying awake during a long day was gone, Emily and Taylor found themselves at the same coffee cart. Little did they know then that the worst coffee they'd ever drank would forever change their lives.
When hopeless people are blinded by an endless pain. When contentment and safety feels like the best option, and love seems impossible, they may just find an EXCEPTION.
"Sometimes life isn't nice or fair. Sometimes we get burned and good people suffer hell twice over, but we can't give up. We can never give up trying to be happy when we know we deserve it."

Exception was such a sweet tale about two people with troubling pasts. We follow them as they begin their friendship, try to dismiss and suppress their feelings, until the end as they fall in love and reach their happily ever after. It was truly a romantic journey about finding love in the oddest of places and finally finding their definition of home.
God, this book was just so heart-breaking and frustrating sometimes. It was tough for me to finish it because, despite the oh-so-sweet phrases and confessions, sometimes their relationship was just too bland.
First thing I disliked about it was that they were too similar. I mean, what were the odds of finding 'The One' and he is almost an exact carbon copy of you in terms of interests? One in a million. But still these two made it work somehow. Although I found it quite apprehensive about it at first, I'm happy to say that the author managed to get rid of my uneasiness of it.
The characters were beautifully written. The tangled up mess of their past to their romantic present.
Every time I think of Taylor, I would just sigh with all his sweet remarks towards her.
But Emily has a hard time trusting people. She's had such a fucked up past that she can't seem to let go. She can't seem to bring herself to move forward and leave it all behind because of the trauma. Until Taylor. Until he saved her.

"What draws me to you isn't your looks, it's who you are. All I want is to get to know you, to understand you, and to be there for you in any way you need. I want that because, for the past three years, my life has been a hellhole where nothing made sense."Not only were they best friends, but they were lovers. I loved how they maintained their closeness instead of making it awkward and tense.

"Feelings like these only bring pain and suffering. I won't be put in that place again. I won't fool myself into thinking I'll be happy just to be shot down in flames again."
She was so scared. So damn scared that she'd lose him.
But Taylor was considerate, thoughtful and patient with her. He made sure that she smiled everyday. He made sure that she was protected. He made sure that everything goes well for her. He cares about her that much.
Beautiful story!

Minor Faults:
- Ending was a bit too dramatic for my taste

I’m Patty, and words have always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved to read them, write them and learn them in other languages. Last year, I’ve decided to take that passion and turn it into a book, the result was Exception, my very first novel due this October.
Whenever I’m not sitting behind my computer, I’m either enjoying the company of my dear hubby, Alex, and our four four-legged babies or reading. I’m a firm believer in long hand written letters, love of any kind and good stories.
