BOOK TOUR: Breaking the Rules - L.K. Lewis + REVIEW & GIVEAWAY!!!

Released: September 17th, 2013

Morgan Lane has just completed grad school, and has accepted a job at Baylor Industries with the help of her father, who just so happens to be golf buddies with Drake Baylor Sr., CEO.  Morgan has lived her 24 years of life under her parents thumbs, and is more than eager to start living life and carving successful career for herself.

Drake Baylor Jr. is being groomed to take over as CEO of Baylor Industries upon his father’s retirement.  Although he was raised in an affluent household, his formative years were rough, leading to a string of bad decisions, and hard lived years.  In order to take over as CEO, his father has given him a set of rules to live by for an indefinite period of time: No drugs, limited alcohol consumption, and absolutely no relationships whatsoever with women-his greatest weakness.  If Drake can abstain from those three things, work hard, and gain his father’s trust, he can have the keys to the Kingdome.

Drake meets Morgan on her first day at Baylor Industries, and the phrase “love at first sight” doesn’t even come close to describing what is felt between them.  Their instant attraction is a magnetic pull that is stronger than either one of them can handle.  Now Drake and Morgan are faced with figuring out how to fight for their future together, hoping not to get caught “Breaking the Rules”.

"Sometimes all we need is to have faith in the unexpected."
It was the love-at-first-sight kind of romance with an excellent, independent heroine and an ending that left me over the edge. If you love those cheesy clichés and the guy fucking up, this is the book for you.

In all honesty, I struggled to finish this book. I loved the idea of it that's why I signed up for the blog tour in the beginning but as I read it, I found many faults which I will discuss but also awesome things about the book!

I liked Morgan's character because she's so damn independent and she reminds Drake of this often because she wants to keep it. I like how she didn't turn into this overly-clingy girlfriend and just followed him around like a lost puppy. I liked how she got off her ass to do shit.

Drake was also swoon-worthy… in the beginning at least. He was so sweet and thoughtful.

I mean, COME ON YOU CANT BE THAT SWEET!
"I want to fight for our happiness. i want you to be there at the end of a long day. I want to plan sweet dinners, and bring you flowers."
Can I just. Someone hold me.

He's really generous and romantic towards her. He brought her dinner to make up for his fuckups and then took her to Vegas for a romantic trip. SHIT. I mean, ughhh, that is so unfair. I want a Drake Baylor.

But then the author's writing style was good, it's her choices of words and quotes that kind of pissed me off. Some of the paragraphs were too long that I got bored while reading them. I'm no writer but I'm speaking as a reader. I think that it would've been more effective to write shorter paragraphs for some.

Okay, so I loved LOVED Drake's character but then he became too needy and he self-pitied a lot that it got on my nerves.
"You made these great plans for us, and I completely shit on them, I'm so sorry."
No, Drake, you shouldn't have blamed yourself. You could've just apologized and that would've probably been all good instead of making your girl feel guilty and shit. He also had a lot of rants about his past that I was just thinking, "What the effing fuck?" SHE GETS IT, y'know.

Plus, his dramatic love confessions were a bit over the top. And this line. I even highlighted it because it was so hilarious.
"I missed you today, all work and no play makes Drake a sad boy."
Oh my God, I think I literally had tears in my eyes reading that. What guy says that?

Two things pissed me off about Morgan. The way she greets her best friend, Amanda.
"MY BFF AMANDA!!!!"
What are you, three? Who the hell calls their best friend like that. I liked Amanda in the beginning but then she became to blehh. And I'm still wondering how she doesn't get creeped out by some of the things Drake does. I mean, I would be. I wouldn't think that it was sweet.
"You really slept with my picture last night, babe? That's sweet. Something like that would normally creep me out a bit, but because it's you, I get it."
What. The. Hell. If he was sad over a breakup then I wouldn't mind him sleeping with her picture but when they're only away from each other for a short while? Really?

Oh well, but if you love those fast-paced cheesy romances, this would be a great read for you :)

Minor Faults:
  • Drake's self-pity and Morgan being weird in some occasions
  • The author's use of exclamation points: "I crash my mouth onto his, massaging his tongue with mine. It's my turn to explore!"
  • Too cheesy and fast-paced for me

MY RATING:

THREE APPLES!!!!!
