Piers Chapman had seen Paris,
In pictures,
In movies,
In books.
What he hadn't seen was the mobster.
Or the dictator.
Or the trained killers.
Or the diamonds they were chasing.
But it was Paris,
The city of light,
The city of love.
And a girl had already stolen his heart.
What could possibly go wrong?
"Paris is not a city. It's an idea, a dream, a hope."
I judged this book too fast from the cover. I thought, hey, that's a gorgeous cover! Then I read the blurb, I was like, whoa, this looks amazing! And then I read it. I'm so sorry to say that this book was just such a disappointment to me. I was looking forward to diving into this book, expecting it to be action-packed, smoking hot, intense, and also romantic. Unfortunately it was neither of those. The characters were okay overall, even though the idea of the plot was great! The book actually started out pretty good with somewhat hilarious banter, the incident that triggered everything else, and the chase. But then it just had a major downfall. I don't know what happened but there was no suspense in the action, no chemistry in the romance. Nada. The only thing that saved this book was the ending, which I liked because Piers was clever and it was pretty tense.
Onto the character that I absolutely loathed. Sidney pissed the fuck out of me. She was annoying as hell. I mean, Piers was really considerate towards her, he thought of her for everything. But did she care? No, she was a selfish bitch. What I didn't get was how they didn't notice that they were being tracked from the dead guy's cell phone? I mean, obviously. I don't know, I'm just really angry with her. Sidney underestimated Piers and then there was no sign of romance at all. Suddenly, BAM! They like each other? Bitch please.
MY RATING:
Nigel Blackwell was born in rural Oxfordshire in England. He has a love of books, a PhD in Physical Chemistry, and a black belt in pointing out the obvious. He's toured to plenty of countries and hasn't been anywhere that doesn't have the potential for a story. He now lives in Texas with his wife and daughter, where they enjoy the sunshine and listen to the coyotes howl at night.
